It is with great pleasure that we announce that the IEEE Computer Society Student Chapter of the University of Patras was awarded with the «Outstanding Chapter Award» of the IEEE Computer Society, for the excellent, high-quality work of the chapter during 2012 in providing the best overall set of programs and activities for local members and prospective computing/IT student members.
With nearly 85,000 members, the IEEE Computer Society is the largest organization of professionals in the world of computing. Founded in 1946, is the largest of the 38 IEEE Societies, concerning information technology and to promote the theory and application of computer technology and information.
The IEEE Computer Society Student Chapters offer the opportunity for members of the Computer Society, at the local level to network with colleagues, business development, professional development, and to share experiences through exchange of knowledge. The IEEE Computer Society has over 375 chapters, both teachers and students.
Specifically, at the University of Patras, the IEEE Computer Society Student Chapter was founded on November 5, 2011 . It counts 52 members from the faculty of Electrical Engineering and Informatics & Computer Engineering , a number which is constantly increasing.
It’s role is to promote technology through the organization of events in order to activate the academic audience.At the same time it aims at research activity development and implementation of innovative ideas through projects by creating teams composed of undergraduate and graduate students and professors.It should be noted that,among other events, it’s members organized Patras Games Expo 2012, the first and largest conference/exhibition about Gaming in Greece.
The members of the IEEE Computer Society Student Chapter and the Executive Committee of the IEEE Student Chapter at the University of Patras would like to thank Mr.Sgarbas, Professor at the Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering and Faculty Advisor of the chapter and Mr.Skodras, President the IEEE Greece Section for their valuable help and advices,Corallia Clusters Initiative for it’s support, the Conference & Cultural Center of the University of Patras for hosting the events and all those who contributed so much to this great success, which hopefully is the first of many more to come.
